Being a social media manager can be really rewarding. I love doing it. Ever since I was young I feel a connection with bakeries and with social media. Getting more brand awareness is also lucrative for your business. Working together with a social media manager can be rewarding for your business.
What is a social media manager actually?
So, what does a social media manager actually do? They manage their clients’ social media. That may sound simple, but there is more to that. It is really important to reach new people. Because they can become new customers to your small bakery.
A social media manager can manage various social media accounts. Such as Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. Each of these platforms has a different audience. It is important to know what to post on which platform and in what tone of voice.
Common tasks for a social media manager
Usually, when I manage the social media for my clients I start to talk with them first. Usually in a video call. I try to get their needs on paper and I ask for some pictures which I can use later. After that, I will start thinking about content ideas – which I usually discuss with my clients before we create nice posts for them. Then It is time to be creative.
I design some post ideas and ask for feedback from the client. If the client has some feedback I will make sure to revise that. If there is no feedback and the post is approved, I will schedule it to post along with a text for the post in the tone of voice for the specific platform (Facebook, Instagram, etc…).
The skills a social media manager needs to have
If I had to become a social media manager for small bakeries again without any knowledge. I would start with learning how to write, and design, and I would try to get more information and knowledge about small bakeries. That is my target audience after all. I really like to manage the portfolio for small bakeries. You do need to be flexible and relatively good at social media. Especially knowing the different trends.
Being a social media manager is complicated
No, it is not complicated. But it does consume a lot of time. Many small bakery owners can do it themself. Maybe with some help for content ideas, but it is not rocket science. The problem is, is that you have to do a lot as a business owner:
- managing your store
- do your finances
- making the bread and cakes
- managing the store
- maintaining a good vibe the employees happy (if you have them)
- do your taxes
- And many more things
